Many in Cambodia have been greatly affected due to the economic hit caused by COVID-19. With the loss of tourists, over 70% of Cambodians in and around Siem reap have lost their job, leaving them with no income. Families were in need before, but now more than ever. They are at the point of survival, where parents are struggling to provide food for their children. Within the last few weeks, we have already given out Emergency Packages to those families. Emergency Packages will include basic food supplies like salt, oil, fish, and rice. We also include hygiene products like soap and hand sanitizer to keep them safe and healthy. We anticipate the need to grow quickly in the coming months and it is our desire to not only support the families in our Sponsorship Program but those around us. We also want to help members of our church community and our own staff, who now often have to provide for many of their relatives who lost their job.
Our social workers are in close contact with these families to evaluate their level of need. Together they work out a future-oriented sustainable plan to help them quickly take control of their lives again. Through the process, we closely monitor their progress and development. We are committed to staying beside these families through this difficult time.
